Rednal helps with creation of gigantic aerostat for The Commonwealth Games 2010 In 2010, the Delhi Commonwealth Games kicked off in spectacular style, with help from Rednal Pneumatics, leading manufacturer of pressure vessels and hydraulic rams. At the games’ opening ceremony on Sunday 3rd October, a huge aerostat was revealed at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to the delight of over 60,000 spectators. At 80 metres long by 40 metres wide and with a height of 12 metres, the ‘Aero Torus’ is the largest tethered aerostat built to date. The brainchild of designer Mark Fisher and manufactured by Lindstrand Technologies, the creation of the aerostat was helped along by the laser profile mastery of Rednal Pneumatics. Rednal was the ideal choice for Lindstrand’s complex and extensive laser profiling needs, having added a new dimension to their already well-equipped factory. The company recently invested in a new 4KW CNC Amada machine with 3 metre x 1.5 metre table capacity. The investment was supported by their own offline CAD/CAM programming centre that has the capabilities to download most laser cutting drawings no matter the format. This technology also helped produce many components that were previously CNC machined, aiding towards reduced component costs and improved delivery times. “Rednal Pneumatics were thrilled to be asked to assist Lindstrand Technologies with their laser profile requirements for the manufacture of something as high profile as the ‘Aero Torus’ project,” says Gary Lyons, Commercial Manager for Rednal Pneumatics Limited. “It was fantastic to see the project coming to fruition as the end result was truly spectacular. We were proud to have played a part in its development. Rednal and Lindstrands have a long-standing relationship and we continue to carry out a fast turnaround service for the company on their varied product range."
